Nwoye enjoys the type of stories that his mother tells, fables of animals with songs in the stories.
Nwoye's new name symbolizes not only his conversion to Christianity, but also his role as the first son of many who will eventually convert. Isaac was Abraham's first son, with Abraham being the ancestral father of a great nation of Israelites; Nwoye was Okonkwo's first son. Further, the famous story of Abraham and Isaac called upon Abraham to sacrifice his son to god. Isaac's brush with death, was much like Nwoye being cast out of his family, and being treated as dead by his father. Nwoye is reborn as a Christian with a new name.
When Nwoye decides that Nnadi lives in the land of Ikemefuna's favorite story, he is suggesting that Nnadi is living in a world where he prefers to ignore or dismiss the harsh realities of life, much like a story that provides comfort or escapism. Nwoye sees Nnadi as detached from the real world and unwilling to acknowledge the pain and suffering that exist within their society.
In the story Nwoye's mother told him, the sky and the earth were originally very close together and would hold conversations. However, because the humans were displeasing the gods, the gods decided to separate the sky and the earth with darkness. The darkness represented the anger and disapproval of the gods toward humanity.

Reason - short story - was created in 1941-04.
While listening to his father's war stories, he realizes that to be manly he should enjoy these stories. However, he knows that he secretly enjoys his mother's stories more, even though by manly standards they are for foolish women and children. He also wants to please his father by being manly.
Nwoye's main character trait is his gentleness which is like his grandfather Unoka. This causes him to have difficulty dealing with his father. He enjoys his mother's stories more than his father's stories. His gentleness causes him to eventually convert to Christianity.
Winnie reluctantly did believe for some reason yet didn't believe fairytales.
Well the most important person in the story who is converted to Christianity from Ibo, is Nwoye. Many other members of the Ibo culture are also converted, however, they do not play a significant role in the story. These people only help symbolize that the Ibo culture is falling apart, along with Okonkwo's life.
