He gets offered a job as a caretaker at the Overlook hotel from his friend, Al Shockley. Danny is the five year old son of Jack who is gifted with the shining, as Dick Hallorann, a staff member of the hotel says. Danny has multiple visions about the hotel, most of them involving one word: REDRUM (read it backwards.) As the hotels dark past starts to get to Jack, and Danny's visions seem to be more violent and more involving Jack murdering all of them, they are snowed in for the winter, with no communications with the outside world except one radio.

It's a really good book, I strongly suggest reading it.
