The adverb form of "relate" is "relatedly."
The answer is asking which of the character's traits or situation is similar to that of your own. The way that I would suggest to answer it is, "I can relate to (character) because I was in a similar situation once..." or, "I can relate to (character) because I was also (trait) at one point.
A product's visual qualities relate to what the object looks like. A product's functional qualities relate to how it is used and/or how it works.

When the author does a good job of describing the character and his or her motivations and conflicts.
