I sure hope you're talking about the book by Nikki Grimes. My best guess is 'emotional journey'. Paris is a girl who is working her way through a lot of stress and tension. Since she is moving from one foster home to the next, there are both internal and external conflicts arising. This book (I think) is about what she went through and what she experienced going through it.
Hoped it helped.
