The setting of Eragon, along with the rest of the Inheritance Cycle, is Algaesia. It is a land that is inhabited my humans, elves, dwarves, and urgals. It is a fictional place.
While Eragon does draw certain elements from the Fantasy genre as a whole, the similarities between Eragon and The Wheel of Time are no more prominent than comparisons from any other Fantasy series.
