What is the significance of lady Catherine's character?

The Bennet family and the Darcy family have certain things in common. One of these things is that Wickham tried to elope with girls in both. Another, which does not come to attention until Lizzy makes a point of it, is that despite the difference in wealth, the two families are of the same social class. But another, and it is very important, is that the faults Darcy sees in Mrs Bennet are reflected in abundance by his mother's sister.

It would be interesting to know what goes through Darcy's mind as he contemplates the fact that his family is really no better than the Bennets in any way aside from wealth. He loves his sister, and so he must forgive Lydia at least to some degree. He has complained about Mrs Bennet, but must live with the fact that Lady Catherine travelled some distance to confront Lizzy over a rumor of their engagement. Ultimately, the fact that he has to contemplate these things is important to overcoming his own foolish unwillingness to see Lizzy as an equal.
