Pele came from Kahiki(Tahiti), her sister Namaka kept chasing her. Pele tried to start a home on a crater, but when she started her flames Namaka would send high waves and put them out. They battles sending lava and water hitting each other till pele moved. That became ni'ihau. Their battle kept going, everytime pele found somewhere, Namaka would send her waves. This continued and made the whole island chain. Till finally pele found a place she could stay. Namaka and pele still battle on the cliffs of Kilauea
