Bob Ewell lost a job from the WPA and blamed Atticus for it. Judge Taylor thought his dog was making noises and opened the screen door and actually saw a shadow figure and kept a shotgun at his side. and Helen Robinson, Tom Robinson's widow got a job from Link Deas, who Tom used to work for, and was being harrassed by Bob Ewell and his children.
Because things like the trial almost never happened in Maycomb; it was a rarity. Besides, there was nothing else to do in Maycomb. In the beginning of the novel it says that "Maycomb was a tired old town... there was nothing to do, nothing to buy and no money to buy it with" (or something like that).
In Harper Lee's novel "To Kill a Mockingbird," three notable events that occurred in Maycomb by the middle of October were: the trial of Tom Robinson, the Halloween pageant where Scout was attacked, and the revelation of Boo Radley saving Jem and Scout from Bob Ewell.

Maycomb is an old town in "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. Three out of the ordinary things that happened to Maycomb citizens in chapter 27, according to Scout, were that someone broke into the home of two elderly sisters and put all of their furniture in the basement. Bob Ewell starts following Helen Robinson to work from a distance, and Judge Taylor heard someone prowling around in his house. When he looked around he found his screen door open and someone sneaking away.
