Depends, if you're talking about the song, the play or the film.

Benny Andersson, Bjorn Ulvaeus and Stig Anderson wrote the song Mamma Mia in early 1975. It was the first track on ABBA's third album, entitled ABBA, released April 1, 1975. According to biographer Carl Magnus Palm, it was the last song to be written and produced for the album.

In 1997 producer Judy Cramer commissioned Catherine Johnson to write the book for the musical play that became Mamma Mia!, which opened on April 6, 1999. She also wrote the screenplay for the film, presumably in or about 2007. The film opened in the summer of 2008.
