Yes. Both parties engaging in communication could be the cause of this. The speaker sends the message from his Self and the listener receives the message as his real Self. The Self is what is affecting communication. Because we all have different views, experiences and language use we all interpret sentences (slightly) different. Apart from the speaker and the listerener, there are other factors that could influence wether or not somebody is interpreted correctly. An easy example of this would be distraction. If the speaker or the listener do not concentrate on what is being said, the chance of the speaker being wrongly interpreted increases.
