he said that she pulled down his pants and attempted to rape him and then Heck Tate came by and she ran inside
Tom testifies that he always passed the Ewell house on the way to work and that Mayella often asked him to do chores for her. On the evening in question, he recounts, she asked him to come inside the house and fix a door. When he got inside, there was nothing wrong with the door, and he noticed that the other children were gone. Mayella told him she had saved her money and sent them all to buy ice cream. Then she asked him to lift a box down from a dresser. When Tom climbed on a chair, she grabbed his legs, scaring him so much that he jumped down. She then hugged him around the waist and asked him to kiss her. As she struggled, her father appeared at the window, calling Mayella a whore and threatening to kill her. Tom fled. Hope this Helps ; )
The key question in Tom Robinson's defense in "To Kill a Mockingbird" is whether Mayella Ewell was actually assaulted by him, or if she fabricated the story to cover up advances from her father, Bob Ewell. Through this question, the novel addresses themes of racial injustice and societal prejudices in the American South.
Mayela claimed that Tom Robinson had raped her and beat her. She seemed unsure of the whole event and based most of her answers off of what her father had already said. Given that later in the book we find that Tom was innocent and that Mayela attempted to come on to Tom Robinson we can understand her nervousness.Mayella had told the jury that Tom Robinson raped her. it explains everything she said in chapter 17.
Tom says that he helped Mayella because he did. Mayella invited Tom inside to show him the chifforobe that was needed to be chopped up. Tom had recently chopped up a chifforobe for Mayella. He was just looking to help her, but Mayella decided to try and hook up with Tom.
he says that he was called in to Mayellas house one day as he usually was. he was asked ot come inside for the first time to fix a door hinge. however when he ogt in he saw that the door did not need fixing. but Mayella wasnt done she then asked him to get something fom on top of a high cabnet that she couldnt reazch. so tom got a later and up he wetn when he was on the latter Mayella then grabed on to his ,legs and he fpught back thne he got down and Mayella asked him to kiss her and as she tried he agian fough back. meanwhile her dad came up form the woods and began to yell. tom then ran as fast as he could.
She made a completely ridiculous claim that Tom, who has a crippled left arm, snuck up on her, started strangling her with one hand, and threw her to the ground. He then allegedly got on top of her, started beating up the wrong side of her body, and raped her. This is the equivalent of saying a guy in a wheelchair kicked a man to death.
The action force when you sit down on a chair is the force exerted by you on the chair. This force is equal in magnitude and opposite in direction to the reaction force exerted by the chair on you, which supports your weight and keeps you from falling through the chair.
The way Mayella acted, it seemed like she was nervous the entire time. That can be a big offset to the fact that she was guilty. When she broke down too. Those who are guilty can be proved so if they, argue too much and too hard, get extremely jumpy or nervous, or breakdown or get really angry. In Mayella case she also got her words mixed up a couple times making it seem like she didn't know what happened to her, even though she supposedly experienced it. I would have to say she is guilty and my reaction is that even though she tried hard to get this story across, I really pity the fact that she had no friends or anything. I get angry though to think she tried to get Tom Robinson killed.
Denard Robinson... hands down
