The four horsemen of the Apocalypse have been global constants since Adam and Eve chose to worship the serpent instead of God, thus breaking the First Commandment.
They are false religion, wars, famines, diseases and pestilences.
These "horsemen" overlap one another and are directly related to each other. Most wars in history directly or indirectly resulted from religious differences... and famine and disease naturally follows in the wake of death and war.
Jesus warns us to be aware of them, but that they are the natural results of man's sins, and to expect them.
"...see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
He says, however, that these "horsemen" will all increase and compound in their destructiveness until they finally bring the world to an unprecedented time in history like no other time before it or after, called Great Tribulation, that will end all life on earth if God doesn't cut it short at the end.
"...except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened." (Matt.24:22)
The "four horsemen" have been riding from the beginning, and are the "main staples of man's life on earth."
A Tribute to the Four Horsemen was created in 2002.
Because they are riding horses and they are men and there are four of them. That's what the word "horseman" means.
