The fight between Gatsby and Buchanan took place at the Plaza Hotel in New York City in "The Great Gatsby". It was a tense and pivotal moment in the novel where simmering tensions between the characters boiled over.

He knew that when he kissed this girl, and forever wed his unutterable visions to her perishable breath, his mind would never romp again like the mind of God." -p. 117 in the other book it is p. 110-111
Tom insists on driving Gatsby's car to New York in "The Great Gatsby" because he wants to exert his power and control over the situation. By taking the wheel of Gatsby's luxurious car, Tom demonstrates his dominance and asserts his superiority over Gatsby, whom he views as a threat to his marriage with Daisy.
