The whole of Wonderland is magical in its way, populated as it is by animated playing cards, talking animals and fantastical creatures such as the Mock Turtle and the Gryphon. Then of course, it is liberally strewn with food and drink which causes Alice to change size during her visit. Things appear and disappear without rhyme or reason - for example, when Alice first discovers the golden key, it is the only thing on the table, but the next time she looks there is also the bottle marked 'drink me' - and the Cheshire Cat appears and disappears with dizzying speed.

But is this really magic at all? Alice's Adventures are, after all, set within a dream and so what seems like magic, might just be the surreality of dreams, where nothing is constant and little makes sense.
