Who does Tom end up tricking when he doesn't want to whitewash?

Tom tells the other boys that whitewashing the fence is really a lot of fun and convinces them of what a great time he is having. He then trades them the pleasure of whitewashing the fence for some of their belongings.

Tom acts like it is SUPER fun to whitewash the fence. At first, he won't give up the job so it seems that he really wants to do it and he tells the other boys he decided to do it on his own. When, in reality, his aunt Polly made him. He even makes the other boys pay him so he'll let them do it.

Tom tricks his friends into thinking that whitewashing the fence is a fun and desirable task. He manipulates them into doing the work for him by pretending to enjoy the job and making it seem like a privilege to be able to participate.
