Javert philosophy on life is that anyone who breaks the law is a bad person and deserves to rot in jail and that anyone who doesn't break the law is a good person. Because of this, Javert is merciless to anyone who breaks the law. When Jean Valjean proves Javert's philosophy wrong, Javert realizes how many lives he's ruined and how all he's done with his life is hurt people. Not able to bear the pain of what he'd done, javert commits suicide by jumping off a bridge.
