because mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for all of us to enjoy and they don't eat people gardens of make nest in corn cribs they just sing.
If you look at it, Hes talking about really the widespread racism of Maycomb. Tom Robinson is a mocking bird and they do shoot him. So its really symbolicly around that.
because they don't do anything but sing for us, and they don't harm anything, so if we kill them, we are killing something that's completely innocent.
