In the opening in the book Marley does state this however, the ghosts as Scrooges states in stave 5 have "done their work all in one night."
In one night three ghosts visited him.
In Charles Dickens' classic tale "A Christmas Carol," the ghost of Jacob Marley visits his former friend and partner Ebeneezer Scrooge late on Christmas Eve. No year is given, but the novella was published in 1843 and appears to be a more or less contemporary story. The other three spirits were, according to Marley, to have visited Scrooge every night for three successive nights beginning that very evening at midnight. However, after the manifestations have passed, Scrooge discovers to his delight that they concluded their business all on the same evening, so that it is only Christmas morning when the last vision ends.
The ghosts in "A Christmas Carol" visited Scrooge in one night. The visits occurred on the night of Christmas Eve, with each of the three spirits appearing to teach Scrooge a lesson about redemption and the true meaning of Christmas.
He showed him aspects of the past, present, and future. He made Scrooge realize what was happening in the lives of his poor worker. He showed him (Scrooge) himself. He saw how cruel he was and what would happen if he did not change his ways. He saw too much and decided to change his and Tiny Tim's future. To tell Scrooge his bad deed an wrong doings.
Four in total. Firstly there was Jacob Marley Scrooges old business partner that tells Scrooge of the life changes he must make to avoid everlasting torment then The Ghost Of Christmas Past, The Ghost of Christmas present & The Ghost Of Christmas Yet To Come
This the introduction to Scrooge and the key people in is life at the time. It also follows that here we meet Jacob Marley who foretells of Scrooge's demise should he not change his miserly ways
They all visited on Christmas Eve - However, when Dicken wrote the story he said they would all visit at 1am . Which means it was actually Christmas day (it had past mid night). The Ghost of Christmas Present also took Scrooge across the 12 days of Christmas to show him that the charitable and consideration shown by others was not for 1 day only but for the whole year
They visit all in one night but the visitation takes place across the 12 days of christmas. The ghost make Scrooge see life across the main 12 days doing so all in one night
Marley says that they will come on successive nights at midnight. However, they come one after another in one big dream/vision that takes place the night of Christmas Eve.
The book begins on Christmas Eve. Scrooge thinks the journey lasts three nights, (as each of the ghosts come when the clock strikes one) but at the end of the book he realizes that the whole experience took place in one night as he wakes the next morning on Christmas Day.
In the original book Scrooge goes to the local tavern on his way home for a small libation and a morsel of supper, he spent the night looking through his bankers book. Only at closing time did he make his way back to his home. There is no suggestion that he was under the influence of alcohol at all only that it was late. Therefore its is believed that the "visions" he experienced were in fact real
