Why did beatty want to die?

He's not necessarily happy at all. He just realized that Beatty wanted to die, and granted what he wanted. I think it made Montag more sad than anything, because Montag was doing what Beatty couldn't ( rebelling against society )

Beatty wanted to die because he was disillusioned with the oppressive society he was a part of, where books were banned and freedom of thought was restricted. He saw no way out of the system he had dedicated his life to enforcing, and believed that death was his only escape.

....i don't think he really did. I think that maybe he underestimated Montag and what he was feeling and going through. He didn't expect Montag to actually do anything.
