What Was in the Book But Not the Movie: Coraline goes to the store by herself and buys limeade and apples when her parents are kidnapped, Coraline wanted a pair of Wellington boots (instead of gloves), Coraline finds one of the dead children's souls in the toy box in her Other Room (instead of in the garden), Coraline gets a box of chocolates in the theater Spink and Forcible performed in and she gives it to the dog sitting next to her, and The Other Father is punished for revealing too much information: Coraline finds him locked in the cellar when she's looking for souls and he ends up attacking her (she narrowly escapes). The door also worked a lot differently in the book than the movie. In the book, the only way to get back to Coraline's world from the Other World, was through the door. She couldn't fall asleep in the Other World and end up back in her Real World bed, like in the movie. Coraline also only went to the Other World once before she got the stone with the hole in it from Spink and Forcible. The stone helped clear her head, so that she wouldn't fall for all of the Other Mother's tricks.
