Because it's the type of book that will keep you up at night. every chapter leaves you at a cliffhanger, for example: when the cop sees that the tracker he left in the jacket of Robert Langdon has gone out the window, you think " holy cow, he just jumped." but then later on you'll find out the tracker was thrown outside the window. besides you learn so much from this novel, I found out so much from it, I decided to continue reading the series. The first is Angels and Demons ,the second The Da Vinci Code, and the third was the lost symbol which I just finished today.

How is The Da Vinci Code offensive to anyone - wouldn't proving Jesus existed be good for religious folk?

The Da Vinci code does not prove Jesus existence, but deliberately seeks to undermine well known and well proven historical facts about the Christian faith. It does this very cleverly with information which is not proven and has already been found to be spurious. It is an outright attack on the Christian faith and particularly the reputation of its founder.
