George Orwell's book, "Animal Farm", has a copious amount of characters within the story. The majority of the characters are just plain farm animals, but if you closely analyze their behavior, you can see that the characters symbolize many different human concepts. For example the Russian Revolution, government changes, politicians, social interactions, social classes, and war. It is the underlying symbolism of "Animal Farm" that makes it such a renown work of literature in modern culture.
