Truth be said, everyone who authors anything is trying to put across a viewpoint or make other people aware of how they see the world. It is all part of humanities need to communicate and all readers of literature are innately susceptible to the view of the story, particularly if it is well written and entertaining.
The problem comes with the fact that powerful people (or corporate entities and governments) know this and deliberately use literature (particularly the mass media) to distort facts, misinform people and bombard them with one particular viewpoint for their own ends and gain.
Readers of literature have a duty to always question what they are being presented with and try to independently check up on the facts before forming strong viewpoints based on literature they are presented with day to day. IF you do not do this you are actually being manipulated into thinking as others wish you to.
