After being separated by a fog, Huck wakes up and sees Jim sleeping on the raft. He ties the canoe back to the raft and lays at Jim's feet, pretending to be sleeping. When Jim wakes, Huck pretends that Jim dreamt the whole fog incident. When Jim finds out Huck is pranking him, he is offended. He says that after all the work of trying to find Huck and calling for him, he didn't care about himself or the raft, only about Huck's safety. When he woke up and saw Huck alive, he was so happy he could have kissed Huck's feet. All that time all Huck cared about was making Jim look like a fool. After Jim says this, Huck sees how mean his prank was and feels so bad he could have "kissed his foot to get him to take it back." He apologizes to Jim.

Jim and Huck find the house to be a mess, and find whiskey, playing cards, and obscene graffiti (symbolizing human vices). Most importantly, they find the body of Huck's murdered father, who was shot in the back. Jim makes sure Huck doesn't see his face, so Huck doesn't know that his father was killed.
In Chapter 10, Huck plays a joke on Jim because Jim believes that touching a snake skin brings bad luck. Huck doesn't believe in it, and puts a dead rattlesnake on Jim's bed to prove his point. It does bring bad luck, however, when the snake's mate comes and curls around the dead snake and bites Jim in the heel. Jim is sick for four days after the snake bite, and Huck feels terrible about what he has done. This scene shows that Huck is becoming increasingly more mature and more concerned about Jim.
Pap was trying to kill Huck because he wanted access to Huck's money, which was being held in a trust and couldn't be accessed by Pap. He saw Huck as a means to get his hands on the money and believed that by getting rid of Huck, he could access it.
Huck wants people to think he's dead because he's trying to escape from his abusive father and the strict societal expectations placed on him. Faking his death allows him the freedom to embark on adventures without being pursued or controlled by others.
Pap yells at Huck because since he has become civilized he thinks that Huck is now better than him so then he becomes angry
Huck doesn't trust Jim fully so he stays on the down low.
