It depends on the kind of trade you are doing. In majority of the cases the trades are a T+2 which means if you buy the stock today 21 Dec 2010, stocks will be delivered to you two days later i.e., on 24 Dec 2010. so you can sell them the earliest on 24th Dec. In case of Intraday you can sell your stocks by the end of the same trading day itself.
December 24th is the eve of Christmas, so many banks work half a day (if it is a week day) to let their employees go home and spend time with their families on Christmas eve. If December 24th is a Sunday then it will definitely be a holiday.
