Personal student loans cannot be discharged in bankruptcy in the same way as most other types of loans. You would have to file a separate lawsuit regarding the loans and prove that repaying them would be an undue hardship. Look at the "related links" for this question for a news article that talks more about the "undue hardship" standard.
You should consult a bankruptcy attorney (or perhaps several to find one who would be willing to take on a student loan case) for a more personalized review.
If you cannot get your loans discharged, your next best step would be to consult with a credit counseling service whose purpose is to assist you in negotiating affordable repayment plans and repairing your credit.
It is possible, if the person you are co-signing with has better credit and makes more money they will probably go first on the loan though both of you will be on the mortage. Generally whoever makes the most income goes first, no matter the credit. It also depends on which type of bakruptcy you filed, chp 7 or 13. I deal with banks that can do chp 13 buyouts a day after discharge. Main thing now is obviously to make sure you pay all your bills on time, do not default on any credit cards or loans and especially do not get put into collections for anything.
What does chp mean? well to be honest I don't know what It means so would you please answer this for mee.....
A bankruptcy will appear on your credit report for 7 years. Though most banks will not take it into account after 2 years from the date of discharge, if you want to refinance. Though with a chp. 13 you can refinance before the 2 year period. 7 yrs. If it still appears on your credit report after that period you must request that your tradelines & report be updated. This is no longer correct. It will now stay for 10 years. I work with them all the time.
If you default on your loan, the cosigner is stuck with paying it off. If your credit had been any good in the first place, you would not have needed a cosigner.

With bankruptcy most banks will not take it into account after 2 years of discharge. Banks look more favorably on Chp. 13 than on Chp. 7's, I deal with many banks who will actually refinance before the 2 year period depending on the circumstances.
CAn you look up records of an acident through CHP records ?
He first uses it in volume 45(Chp.418) and fights with it in volume 47(Chp.430).
