The techical answer is yes, but the real answer depends on what you think purging means. Purging means removing outdated or incorrect information that is no longer reportable by law. The normal reporting period is 7 years (10 for bankruptcy). This type of data removal is possible though time-consuming to accomplish, and can lead to a better credit score if done correctly (not removing helpful data).

What many people want and what some companies sell is the removal of correct but negative information. While some attorneys or companies with deep knowledge of the law can have some information removed under technicalities, removal of correct information is difficult if not impossible. Some people will dispute credit items that are valid multiple times in the hopes that their creditor will not respond to one of the disputes and it will be purged under the law when no response is received by the credit reporting agency with whom the dispute was filed. The success of such methods is dubious at best. The agencies are quite used to people attempting to manipulate their reporting.
