Most everything stays on your credit report for 7 years since last activity not when you created the account.

If you make a payment for example, even if it has already been on your report for 5 years, you start the clock ticking all over on the 7 years.

Legal matters like tax liens, bankruptcies can stay on your report for 10 or more years.
