You can find shares as cheap as 1 penny, but normal people need a stock broker or brokorage web site to buy shares, and those both have fees and minimum purchase sizes associated.

When you buy stock, the money goes to the company that issued the stock or to the existing shareholders who are selling their shares.

When you buy shares for a company in the stock exchange where does money go?

Ultimately, the money goes to the previous owner of the stock which can be a company, group, or individual. However, the money passes through different hands depending on how the shares were bought and sold. For instance if you bought shares though an online broker then the shares might be purchased in bundles by the online broker, and then transferred to you. Mutual funds buy shares of various companies on your behalf using money you contributed.

How much money do i need to start with in stock?

You don't need a lot of money. Depends on how much the stocks costs. You can buy just one or two shares but it's not very profitable. If you can afford to buy five or ten or a higher amount of shares you'll make (or lose) more. Some high-risk stocks sell for very low prices and you could buy a hundred shares if you are a risk taker. Some stock brokers might not want to deal with a small investor. That's when you explain that you're just starting out and you expect to inherit some money very soon. Anyway, it all depends on how much the stocks sell for and how much money you want to invest.
