A true management trainee allows fresh graduate an opportunity to have a glimpse of what the company operation is all about. For example, Banking management trainee allows the person to work on different department to let them have an experience of all different aspects of the operation. This would allow mainly fresh graduate to know which operation or what kind of work he/she prefer.
However, a lot of companies abuse the term "management trainee" and some hired them to do very basic admin work. From sales coordinator or just helping out in the office.
