Well, it depends greatly upon the company, but, here is a general idea. A CEO is supposed to be the face of the company. He/She negociates contracts, makes sure that all accounting, marketing, production, etc. are being handled appropriately by hiring the main people who will do the best job for the company. A CEO is also the one who comes up with and fields ideas for company growth. At the end of the day, all good and bad things tat happen with a company falls on the head of the CEO and their management style. All main department heads report to the CEO and all figures are scrutinized by the CEO. Essentially, the CEO is the manager and spearhead and under them, the people whom they hire do the actual wok. Nw, for a start up small company, the CEO is to wear as many hats as they can until they hire out the tasks that prevent their bility to market and run a company. When the company gets large enough, typically the CEO looks at where they can expand, control expantion, deal with projection, etc. Hope this helps
