Yes, bettas come from Thailand and ususally live in the paddy fields. The live there because they always need to come up for air and enjoy the acres of water to swim around in. They don't need so much space but are curious and enjoy exploring. Wild bettas are usually dim colours such as grey so that it is not easy for birds and other predators to see them. But, bettas have been bred so that there are also very colourful types. My betta is a half moon female and is bright red with a big tail. Most people say that females have smaller tails but there are exeptions such as my fish.
There are many species of wild Bettas. New species are still being discovered. Some, like betta splendens,(the most common pet store Betta), are bubble nest builders. Others are mouth brooders. It's difficult or impossible to find a pure wild form of Betta splendens, because of the long tradition of fighting them. They were bred to be good fighters by the local people, and their form and color changed in the process. These fighters were then released back into the wild, contaminating the wild populations.
If you want a Betta that is more available, that looks very much like the original Betta splendens, You can usually find Betta imbellis. There are only very slight differences in color and form from the original wild splendens.
The betta fish that you buy at Walmart or a pet shop are raised in captivity and bred for their long fins and rich colors. The original betta(Betta spendens) came from Siam, now Thailand, where it lives in small ponds. The wild fish is smaller and not as colorful as its domestic counterpart, but just as feisty with others of its kind.
Hi. You can get to know your betta by examining what they do and how they react to things.
Betta fish do live by themselves, as int hey don't travel in groups. But more then one betta inhabits a space. They live in mile long rice paddies.
You don't. Wild Bettas do not come from Singapore.
It is important to find a new home for a betta fish rather than getting rid of it. You can give it to a friend, donate it to a pet store, or find a local fish rescue organization. Never release a betta fish into the wild as it can harm the ecosystem.
For the one you commonly find in pet stores, it's a fancy variety of Betta splendens. The wild B.splendens is green/red and has short fins. There are about two dozen, maybe more to be discovered, other species of Betta also. Such as B.imbellis and B.smaragdina.
other Betta fish and the bigger fish.
Betta fish do not eat fish.
No betta fish are carnivores.
Well, if you love your Betta fish, then it should live by itself. But if you add another Betta to your current Betta fish's tank, then they will start a fight because Betta Fish are Siamese fighting fish and if one Betta is in contact of another Betta, the possible reason would be a fight between them two.
All fish do it. If it just opens its mouth and lets out air it is just doing fish things.
A betta is a fish of the species Betta, especially Betta splendens, commonly known as the Siamese fighting fish.
