Sharks have dentricles or bony platelets not scales. Their skin will slice human skin like rows of tiny blades. Though the cuts are straight and many, they do not cut through the skin of humans. They can rub your skin to try and tear or cause abrasion to sense if you are prey. But, once they do not detect fish, they should move on. That has been my experience of being rubbed by sharks.
