I kept a fantail goldfish and a koi together for 1.5 years. They got along fine. It may have been just my fishes' personalities but I never had a problem with those two. They were buddies. When I got them they were both about 1.5 inches long, so they were young. I rescued them from a kindergarten fishbowl.
I don't recommend keeping them together in an aquarium unless you've got lots of room or a large pond. I just donated the koi to the city aquarium because he's over 7 inches long and growing fast. The fantail has grown too, but not as dramatically.

Since Goldfish are omnivouros, they can eat a wide variey of food such as brine shrimp, earth worms, lettuce, de-shelled peas, oranges, krill, daphnia, tubifex worms, elodea, duckweed, blood worms, and other shrimps. However, Goldfish flakes provide the important nutrients your goldfish needs on a daily basis. Other foods should be fed once or twice a week as a treat.
