I've lived on Knotts Island for about 23 years. I've fished all over the sound. While I've never seen a shark out there I've caught skates and rays, so I guarantee they're there. Bull Sharks are common off the coast and they get along well in waters like the Currituck Sound (fresh or brackish). They've been found in freshwaters all over the world. Used to swim out there when I was a kid but I don't now. Chances of ever meeting a shark anywhere are slim but I don't like what I can't see. They're out there...

The Currituck Sound in North Carolina varies in depth, typically ranging from about 1 to 5 feet. Some areas may be deeper, but the sound is generally characterized by its shallow waters, making it ideal for activities like kayaking and fishing. The shallow depths also contribute to the rich ecosystem and diverse wildlife in the region.
Currituck Beach Light was created in 1875.
