a tetrapods tongue. A tetrapod is a vertebrate with four limbs

each of which has a wrist-like structure.

The tongue is highly mobile. The basihyal is a bone that

protects the heart of the fish. The basihyal is not mobile.

Sometimes, teeth are attached to the basihyal.

The basihyal is better thought of as part of the lower jaw

of a fish rather than a tongue. However, sometimes the basihyal

is called a "fishes tongue" mostly because of the superficial

resemblance.
