This happens to be a frequently asked question and I would be happy to answer it. You can only tell if a goldfish is a male during their mating season their gill flaps/fin edges will have white specks which in the other hand female will become swollen with eggs.
Hope this helped! :)

i want to know how to tell a gender of a goldfish please tell me write back which goldfish is a male and which is a female?
a goldfish that is Female
it can be its breeding tubercles... if you have a female... they might spawn!!!!
Goldfish do not get pregnant like mammals do. Instead, female goldfish lay eggs that are fertilized by male goldfish. You can tell if a female goldfish is ready to lay eggs by looking for a swollen abdomen and a more rounded body shape. Additionally, the female may exhibit behaviors such as digging in the substrate or chasing other fish in the tank.
There is very little sexual dimorphism between male and female goldfish. Male goldfish are generally more slender, because they lack ovaries. Female goldfish may have swollen abdomens. Unless you are a professional, it is not advised to breed goldfish at home, because they cannot lay their eggs due to selective breeding. The eggs must be squeezed out of the female, when they are ready.
The girl tends to be bigger than the boy. It's not easy to tell them apart. The males don't get into fights and the females don't have marks, different colors like a lot of other animals, so it is hard to do it. Also at some time of the year the female goldfish will get a bit fatter because she is full of goldfish eggs. With experience by observing them is possible to learn how to tell male and female goldfish apart by the thickness of their fins, the shape of their pectoral fins and the straight/thickness/firmness of their abdomens.
in the spring the female will poof up after they get about 3 years of age
