If you are referring to Sciaenops ocellatus, a saltwater member of the family Sciaenidae, I believe the original common name (red drum) was too similar to the popular chant of Satan worshippers (redrum) which is murder spelled backwards. In order to make it a popular sportfish with sponsored televised tournaments it was given an easy less offensive name that stuck.......or maybe because it is a fish that's red.
'Red Fish' is a common name for several different species of fish. Generally the name 'Red Fish' is used when describing deep-sea genus such as Snappers. Some of the less popular fish that are also considered to be 'Red Fish' are both the Slimehead Fish and Alfonsinos Fish.

It has no specific name to it. The goldfish is just called 'fish' (not very creative by Dr. Seuss). He did not really take the time to name most of the characters in the book.
