How do I take care of goldfish in a 5 gallon aquarium?

One goldfish requires 20 gallons on it's own, not only due to the size it can grow, but because they are very high waste producers.
You can look at getting one betta for a 1 gallon tank, but be sure that you clean it at least once a week, twice if necessary.

I will tell you in a few steps how to take care of goldfish (I take care of them in a 5 gallon aquarium too!) below:

How to Take Care of Goldfish:

1. First, get your 5 gallon tank.
2. Wash your tank thoroughly. Do not use soap! just clean it with running, clean, warm water.
3. Assemble your filter, if you have one. In a 5 gallon tank, I suggest that you get a filter as quick as possible if you don't have one yet. Filters are very important.
4. Stick your filter onto the clean aquarium, however it says you do it. Some filters have suction cups. Some kind of hang on the side of your aquarium. It depends. Read your filter's instructions carefully.
5. If you have gravel, take it out of the package. Spill all of it into a small bucket and wash it throoughly with again warm, running water. make sure it is very clean. You will be surprised by how much dust the new gravel has.
6. Add the gravel into the empty tank and level it out.
7. Add the decorations or plants.
8. Add the water!
9. Take your fish that are in the bag and float them into the water for a few minutes, letting them adjust to the temperature. Then carefully let them into the new tank.

Feed them what they can eat in two minutes twice per day, and clean 25% of your aquarium's water with new water per week, and you will have happy goldfish! I hope I have been some help! =)
