Puffer fish, also known as blowfish or bubblefish, are solitary creatures and only interact for short periods of time. They like exploring but they don't like to be in the open for long because it makes them more vulnerable. They are slow swimmers and their only defense against predators in their ability to puff up. Puffing up does cause a risk to the puffer fish though because at times water or air can become lodged in their lungs and kill them. Because of this, they prefer not to puff. When guarding their eggs some puffer fish become territorial and aggressive and sometimes seem to go crazy. When kept in captivity the puffer fish have the ability to recognize their owners and can be taught to beg for food.
