well the answer to a similar question i saw it said right when they lay their eggs they abandon them. NOT TRUE! sharks are viviparous which means that the egg hatches in the body and has live birth. but i think it still leaves their young to fend for themselves.

Fish like whale sharks don't actually get pregnant - they give birth via eggs. However, the whale shark does keep the eggs inside her body until they hatch, so you might say she's sort of pregnant. They aren't all hatched at once, though - the female shark keeps the sperm from her mating and releases it a little at a time so she has a steady stream of babies.
