Whale shark pups are typically about 16 to 24 inches (40 to 60 centimeters) long at birth. They are among the largest fish species, and despite their considerable size as adults, they start life relatively small compared to their eventual length, which can reach up to 40 feet (12 meters) or more. These pups are born live, and they are well-developed, capable of swimming immediately after birth.
A baby hammerhead shark is called a "pup." Like many other shark species, hammerhead sharks give birth to live young, and the pups are independent from birth, swimming away shortly after they are born. Hammerhead shark litters can vary in size, typically ranging from 20 to 40 pups.
