A pond filter is a device used for clearing a pond of micro-organisms. It is a must have if your pond has fish and they are having problems.
To create a small goldfish pond in your backyard, you will need to choose a suitable location with access to sunlight and shade. Dig a hole for the pond, line it with a pond liner, and add water. Install a pump and filter to keep the water clean and oxygenated. Add aquatic plants and rocks for decoration. Introduce goldfish to the pond once the water has been treated and is at the right temperature. Maintain the pond by regularly cleaning the filter, monitoring water quality, and feeding the fish appropriately.
if you have a small pond like mine (mine is 300 gallons) you can filter the water through a uv light which kills bacteria and free-floating algae i have a 20 watt uv light integrated into a bio filter which cost about a hundred dollars total. it has been a lifesaver!

since this question is in "ponds" category, i assume you're talking about pond filtration: my pond filter does three separate functions. . . as the unfiltered water enters the filter, foam media catches debris from the water, then the filtered water passes through to a chamber that contains plastic balls. these hold billions of bacteria that filter out the nitrates and nitrites, and finally the water passes through a chamber holding a uv light, which kills off bacteria and algae. the water that circulates back into the pond is now clean. hope this helps!
You can buy a livestock water tank and a filter and that works fine.
