If they make it through the newborn stage, and if they are healthy and there nitrate and pH and water temperatures are all good it will probally live to about five to ten years, there have been cases of fantails living up to 15 to 20 years

I am asking the same question because I have 2 of my own fish in my room and they are fantails, so does my brother, we have 2 each, I have not had them that long, about 1 week, and the maidenhead aquatics person said that they would live long if you look after them properly and give them the correct amount of food every day, but if you give them to much food they will die and they will not live for very long :( I hope you start looking after your fantail's properly! LOL my fantails are called Willow & Twiggy and my bros are called Goldy & Frank, LOL
