It depends on the species of fish. Most short lived fish like livebearers will start breeding at a few weeks and so will many of the smaller silversides like Australian Rainbows, some tetras and some danios. Others like some of the larger cichlids may not start until they are several years old.
Yes they can cross breed.
Koi lay eggs.
Yes, butterfly koi and regular koi can breed, as they are both varieties of the same species, Cyprinus carpio. When they mate, the offspring can inherit traits from both parents, resulting in a mix of physical characteristics. The breeding process is similar to that of other koi varieties, and the resulting fry can be either butterfly or regular koi, depending on the genetic combinations.
Koi can live to be about 100 years old
usually 1.5 years old
Yes. In fact, the gene that controls the butterfly characteristic is a dominant gene so all the offspring will be butterfly.
In Japan, a koi lived to be over 90 years old.
they have to be around 10-12.
Koi are pond fish and grow to over 24 inches or so when adult. It is unlikely they will breed for you in a small aquarium. (It is also unlikely they will live long in a small (under 75 gallons) aquarium)
18months old, no exceptions. Before that is unhealthy.
Mine was a stud at 10 months....
