Whether canned salmon is wild or farmed depends on where the fresh salmon comes from. Some canned salmon is wild caught, some is farmed. The label on the can should say which.

For one: Ew, that sounds like a terrible idea. And two: if the recipe calls for smoked salmon, it needs that smokey taste to it, which canned salmon does not have. If however it prefer the taste of cat food, then by all means, go for it.
Fish:tuna,salmon etc. CANNED
Farmed salmon are raised in ponds. Wild salmon are caught in their natural environment.
You can make a wicked pasta salad with drained canned salmon. Canned salmon is also nice in a cream sauce on rice - brown or white. You can use it as a sandwich filling similar to tuna salad, or put it on plate with a couple of leaves of lettuce and tomato slices for an individual salad. Are you hungry yet?
Once canned salmon is opened you can keep it for three days. You should transfer it to a covered bowl, and store it in the refrigerator. Unopened cans of salmon can be kept for up to three years.
Consuming wild-caught pink salmon can provide a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, protein, and essential nutrients like vitamin D and selenium. It is also generally considered to be more environmentally sustainable compared to farmed salmon.
Wild salmon is typically available from late spring to early fall, with the peak season being in the summer months. The specific availability can vary depending on the species and location of the catch. Wild salmon can be found fresh or frozen, depending on the time of year and region.

Salmon is considered a healthy food because of the abundance of Omega-3 oils. For the best tasting and most sustainable salmon, look for wild grown Alaska salmon NOT farm raised and NOT Atlantic (Atlantic just doesn't taste as good!)
