The female has a triangular ventral fin. The male has a pointed one that can be swung around in many directions in order to funnel the sperm(milt) into the females "cloacca". It is called a "gonopodium.
A Platy is a Platy is a Platy.(Xiphophorus maculatus variatus) The fancy name makes no difference. The gestation period for a Platy is about 3 to 4 weeks under perfect conditions but can take up 3 or 4 months if conditions are not to the fishes liking. If conditions are really bad she can refuse to let them out and they will be still born eventually (sometimes this kills her).
A female platy will be more rounded than a male platy, provided the fish you are sexing are a little mature, the older the fish the eaiser it is to sex the fish. The main way of sexing livebreeders is a little more reliable. Look at the bottom of the fish, just behind the pectoral fins and a little bit behind the anal opening. The anal fin in the female fans out in a triangle shape pointing downwards when she is relaxed. The male's anal fin is modified into a penis-like organ (gonopodium) which points backwards and does not fan out when he hovers in the water. This method works for all livebreeders (platy, guppy, molly, swordtail) and not just any particular colour (though sunset mickey mouse sounds very pretty! My male is a sunset helmethead with black sides.) The male sexual organs are some of the last things to develop and so juvenile females suddenly switching to male is quite common.
A Platy is a Platy it is either a Xiphophorus maculatus or X. variatus. Colour does not matter at all. They are all the same species and can interbreed. They can also cross breed with Swordtails (Xiphophorus helleri).
Answer It is the platy's waste.
The African dwarf frog can indeed live with fish in a five gallon aquarium. BUT BEWARE!!! dwarf frogs may eat your fish small enough to fit in it's mouth. so i recommend Platy and live-bearers as companions.
It is possible that a platy is about to give birth.
A platy is a type of tropical fish. It is not a quantity or measure so one can not have a "platy of" anything including guppies.
Platy de muzquiz was created in 1988.
Platy cuatro cienegas was created in 1963.
well the snail, tetras, platy and guppy will be suitable to put together. the one African dwarf frog will not. try not to mix the frogs with fish because the frog will need a dry area
Platy minerals are micas(muscovite and biotite) and chlorite
A platy may begin to breed starting around 4 months of age
