A whale shark will eventually outswim you, but why bother? They do about 3 mph / 5 Km/h / 3.15 knots. The good news is that they're not interested in people anyway.
I'm going OT here...
We all know about The great white, (but like unmusty, unhassled elephants) they're usually human-friendly.
The two to be scared of, are the bull shark (which will nudge you before biting your arm off) and the tiger shark which won't!
Anyway, I don't want to scare people about those species, so I'll mention that the white tipped shark has a higher kill-rate on humans than any other species.
So the next time you put a Plecostomus in your fish tank or buy "rock haddock" at a fish and chip shop, don't let it bite you. It's a shark!
what is the speed of a whale shark === ===
=== ===
The whale shark is the most gentle shark, where a diver could pet it and swim right next to it.
A white shark is more dangerous than a whale shark because: They have larger teeth They swim faster They consider jamming (attacking) people more often They eat other fish and mammals, rather than plankton They swim where humans do.
The biggest shark on the world is the whale shark because it eats plankton so that is why they named it the whale shark. The whale shark is 12.5m long and weighs 15 tones. The whale shark does not eat humans, but they have eaten 200 people in 100 years. This was only because they did not know we are meat not plankton. Although a couple of years ago 20 student went out to swim, and the whale shark ate 4/20 of them. The whale shark is the biggest shark on the world. People also say that the whale shark lives in the Missisippi River in Texas. So the whale shark is getting extinct because people are hunting on them. So just for your safety BEWARE
Because it IS concidered a shark.....wouldn't that make the WHALE SHARK the slowest swimmer sharks?
max speed of roughly 45Mph
It actually depends on what type of shark it is, and its speed it.
The speed of a shark catching its prey really does depend on the shark and how hungry it is.
A full grown beluga whales top speed is 15mph.
Blue Whales can swim at speeds up to 20 mph!
A killer whale would win all the way. The biggest specie of hammerhead shark the great hammerhead can measure up to 6.1 metres where as an adult male killer whale can measure from 6-9.7 metres so killer whales are usually bigger and packed with muscle. As well as this a killer whales are faster with a top speed of 35 mph whereas a hammerhead can swim at about 25mph also the killer whale can put a hammerhead shark into tonic immobility.
Sharks unlike whales breath through gills and do not have a blow hole scince they are adapted to go really deep down if a whale went really deep down it would not be able to come back up for air scince it would run out of time
There are a great many deformed sharks in the world. Most of these sharks cannot be recognized as sharks and die because they cannot swim properly.
