If there is at least one male and one female in the same tank, and the female is full of eggs, the male will chase her and poke his head against her side & belly to convince her to release eggs. If she does, he will then release what is called milt in an attempt to fertilize the eggs.

Unless they are separated, the eggs quickly become a goldfish snack.

I would not call this a "ritual" but it is what goldfish do. The males butt/push the females in their sides to get them moving. Once the females start to flee the males chase them. They end up in a frenzy of chasing through the surface plants scattering ova and milt which stick to the plants and other surfaces. After the frenzied spawning the fish then go about feeding on the ova, so if you wish to have goldfish fry remove the adults as soon as spawning ceases.
