Fossa fossa is the scientific name of the Malagasy civet. They live exclusively in Madagascar, and eat small lizards, mammals, birds, and amphibians, as well as insects and eggs. They aren't to be confused with the Cryptoprocta ferox, whose common name is "fossa."

C. ferox doesn't even have a similar diet, eating everything from small to medium mammals, as well as fish and birds. They are particularly good at hunting lemurs, which make up to over half of their diet. They also eat lizards. C. ferox consume between around 2 lbs of meat per day. They can hunt in trees or on the ground, and usually do so alone, although they hunt with their mate during the breeding season and later mothers and young may hunt together.
